A cordless vacuum is bought for one reason and it is not cleaning power: it is that the machine gets picked up on a Tuesday evening instead of staying in the cupboard. Every corded vacuum on this site cleans better per rupee than every cordless one. The cordless wins anyway in most homes, because the best vacuum is the one that actually gets used, and dragging a canister and its cord out for two minutes of spilled dal is a thing people stop doing.

The specifications that matter are sealed suction, runtime at a realistic power setting, and weight. Treat manufacturer runtime claims as best-case: they are measured in eco mode with a non-powered tool, and a motorised floor head roughly halves them. Under about ₹8,000 you are buying a light-duty machine for surface dust on hard floors — genuinely useful, but not a carpet cleaner and not a substitute for a proper corded vacuum.

One number decides more wrong purchases here than any other: the wattage on the box. Motor watts measure the electricity the motor draws, not the dirt it lifts. What lifts dirt is sealed suction — air watts, or kilopascals — and a well-sealed 1,000 W machine routinely out-cleans a leaky 2,000 W one. Where a brand publishes air watts or kPa we lead with it below; where a brand quotes only motor watts, that is usually because the honest figure is unflattering.

How we chose these

Sealed suction, not motor watts

Cordless machines are honestly specified in air watts or pascals because they have no big mains motor to boast about. Dyson's 240 AW is the highest available in India; anything quoting only a battery voltage is telling you nothing.

Realistic runtime

Rated runtime is eco mode with a plain tool. Assume roughly half with a motorised head, and about a sixth in boost. A 2BHK needs a genuine 25-30 usable minutes.

Weight, measured at the hand

Total weight matters less than where it sits. A 3 kg stick with the motor at the top is more tiring overhead than a 4 kg one with the weight low. Anything above 3.5 kg becomes unpleasant on stairs.

Filtration, if anyone reacts to dust

A washable filter is not HEPA, and a HEPA filter in an unsealed body leaks around the cartridge. Only a fully sealed system genuinely removes allergens rather than redistributing them.

Over the machine's life, lithium-ion packs typically hold useful capacity for three to five years before noticeably declining. That is the main long-term cost of going cordless, and it is why the brand's service network matters more here than on a corded vacuum — check whether a replacement battery is actually orderable before you buy.
Cordless or corded vacuum — which should I buy?
Corded cleans better per rupee and never runs out; cordless gets used far more often. If you can only own one machine and your home has carpet, buy corded.
